Anthropogenic Carbon Transport Variability in the Atlantic Ocean Over Three Decades

چکیده
The change in anthropogenic CO2 (Canth) the Atlantic Ocean is linked to Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), that redistributes Canth meridionally and depth. We have employed direct biogeochemical measurements hydrographic data from last thirty years, adjusted using inverse models for each decade with both physical constraints. then computed meridional transports vertical between two sections at interphases by advection diffusion. focused on repeated three latitudes – 30°S, 24 55°N, dividing into boxes. divided net transport upper, deep abyssal layers, an upper northward of a southward component layers. time appears be mainly due modifications lower layer AMOC, combination waters, maintain more consistent time. Vertical plays important role North Atlantic, exporting In South newly formed Antarctic Bottom Water exports strong gradient concentration interphase layers results

Natural Variability and Anthropogenic Trends in the Ocean Carbon Sink.
Since preindustrial times, the ocean has removed from the atmosphere 41% of the carbon emitted by human industrial activities. Despite significant uncertainties, the balance of evidence indicates that the globally integrated rate of ocean carbon uptake is increasing in response to increasing atmospheric CO2 concentrations. The El Niño-Southern Oscillation in the equatorial Pacific dominates int...
متن کاملInterannual variability in the North Atlantic Ocean carbon sink.
The North Atlantic is believed to represent the largest ocean sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide in the Northern Hemisphere, yet little is known about its temporal variability. We report an 18-year time series of upper-ocean inorganic carbon observations from the northwestern subtropical North Atlantic near Bermuda that indicates substantial variability in this sink. We deduce that the carbon ...

[1] This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the basin-wide inventory of anthropogenic CO2 in the Atlantic Ocean based on high-quality inorganic carbon, alkalinity, chlorofluorocarbon, and nutrient data collected during the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) Hydrographic Program, the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS), and the Ocean-Atmosphere Carbon Exchange Study (OACES) surv...
متن کاملIntrinsic Ocean–Atmosphere Variability of the Tropical Atlantic Ocean
The tropical Atlantic variability is composed of three major patterns of significant importance for variability and predictability of climate in the Atlantic sector. They are the southern tropical Atlantic (STA) pattern with anomalous sea surface temperature (SST) fluctuations expanding from the Angolan coast to the central equatorial ocean, the northern tropical Atlantic (NTA) pattern centered...
